Studying “Smiling Spermy Spiralies” by Los Angeles based Kenny Scharf is a mind boggling experience that transports one into the psychedelia while harboring a desire to open up Scharf’s brain to see what he was thinking. The artist’s pop painting is part Gary Baseman, part commentary on American consumer culture and all colors.
With this said, it was almost inconceivable that the conservative luxury Swiss watch maker, Movado, would seek out Scharf for a collaborative collection, offering consumers timepieces that are very different from the clean-cut classic styles we are used to seeing from Movado.
The iconic Museum Watch from Movado is done up in Scharf’s signature bubbly illustrations and wild amoeba-like characters. There are six watches produced in this collaboration and each come in limited runs of 100 at $659 each. For collectors, there is also a limited box set containing all six styles for $3,495 a pop, but there are only 25 sets available.
