The Awesome Black Belt Watch

The Black Belt Watch. Manufactured with Swiss mechanics, the all-black watch honors the seven virtues associated with the Bushido Code (the ‘way of the warrior’) and brings back the values of ancient martial arts. Other features include a satin finished and PVD coated case, a sandblasted steel case with Kanji characters replacing numerals. On the face is a very cool kimono belt detail with hands that resemble a bamboo sword known as Shinai.

Untrod: Watch Designs

Untrod is a project which collaborates with international designers on various project themes -
the first theme is 'watch'. Designers have been asked to investigate the possibility of bringing
new meanings to the conventional form of a watch. These are the initial design concepts,
so only renderings are available for some pieces.
sol by shin azumi

drawing on his love for the sun, shin azumi has designed a solar powered watch which
instead of disguising the solar cell technology, he has made it a design feature,
visible on the face of the watch.

analarm by industrial facility

this analog alarm watch by industrial facility takes its starting point from the alarm clock image.
here, sound is replaced by vibration (through the use of a small motor), which indicates that the alarm
is activated. simply by moving the hand to the desired time and lifting the alarm button,
the watch can be set and used for daily alerts.

skew by ross mcbride

a wrist watch is an extension of its wearer, but often the wearer is the one who adjusts his/her
movements to suit the watch. skew by ross mcbride allows you to adjust your watch's
digital display to your ideal viewing angle.

this is a timepiece which exists without the utilitarian presence of a wrist watch.

First Images: BlackBerry Watch is FOR REAL!

  • it has been designed specifically for use with BlackBerry Smartphones from the ground up - developed by a new BlackBerry-dedicated accessory company
  • it features an OLED screen that we hear is "big, bright and beautiful" and optimized for displaying text clearly, and thanks to OLED has solid battery life
  • it's designed to show you notifications and previews of messages arriving on your BlackBerry
  • judging by the filename of the photos as they were sent in to us, we're thinking it's going to be branded the inPulse smartwatch

The intent of the watch isn't to replace using your BlackBerry to view messages. Rather, it's for those occassions when your BlackBerry is tucked away - while in a meeting, while driving, or while you're out for a bike ride and you feel it vibrating in your camelback.
When you get that impulse to stop what you're doing and pull out your BlackBerry, now you can quickly glance over at your inPulse and decide if you need to pull out your BlackBerry to address that message now or if it can wait fifteen minutes you're free.

Maezm: sharing watch

The watch makes it easy to share time with others just by turning the face 90 degrees

A normal watch is worn so that it is convenient for the wearer to tell time - with numbers
readable when the arm is folded toward the trunk of the body. However, through a slight
change of turning the display board 90 degrees, the intrinsic meaning of the watch changes
- for example when you are showing someone what time it is.
Sharing watch by Korean design studio Maezm displays the time in such a way that it is read in the same way to you as it can be read by others.
The simple act of turning the numeric face 90 degrees reconsiders the ritual behavior of sharing time on a different level.
